Pruning of Trilobite
2009-01-01
(Fossil Website/By Qingshuifuqingyi) In the past, pruning of the specimen used to be done with hammer when picking specimen in the fields. This was later found not to be the best way. For the specimen of appendage in particular, the details can be damage by the use of the hammer.
Lots of information can be shown in the process of picking. Therefore, portable magnifying glasses should be brought with you when working in the fields.
The specimen showed a very little part of the appendage. The specimens with the most parts buried are often of great quality. For many specimens, symmetrical parts do not often show. The lower Cambria specimen is a good example. They often appear in single format while the symmetric formats are often attached to each other.
It is nothing hard to prune a complete specimen, but it takes time to work on the appendage. Owing to the irregularity of the antenna in burying, special care should be given.
Since the pruning of antenna is quite troublesome, try to work on it only when you are at your best.
