A Field Trip to Shandong by Fossil Fans in 2008

(Fossil Website/By Zuo Shanling) On December 29, 2007, Fossil Cat arrived at Lingyi, Shandong. We talked the whole evening. We were joined by Liantian Man early the next day and by Sanjie and ceven in the evening. We spent time drinking and expecting Dulang (Malicious Wolf) and his team to arrive the following day.

It was the first day for Zuo Shanling, Liantian Man and Fossil Cat to conduct field work at the site of ichnofossil of dinosaurs at Zuo Shanling. The first trip was fruitful. Apart from visiting the ichnofossil of dinosaurs, Fossil Cat accidentally found other fossils in a large area at the ichnofossil layer. Preliminary examination showed that they were plant fossils.

Dozens of ichnofossil by sauropod and theropoda dinosaurs in all sizes are preserved at this layer together with ripples that are suspected to be the skin mark of the dinosaurs. Under the setting sun, it looked like some dinosaurs had just walked by the damp area beside the lake.

A mountain in Lingyi is known as “Zuo Shanling”. It is home to Liantian Man and Fossil Cat. One day, a foreigner called “cEVEN” came to the place. Together they encountered a “Malicious Wolf”. They were frightened away by the wolf and disappeared in Longgujian, our destination of tomorrow.

We spend the New Year’s Day at Longgujian. On the first day of the year, the exploration in the wilderness has given us a lot to think about. Traveling around in cold weather in Shandong, we felt as if we were in the heat of the summer. We’ll continue with a more arduous part of the trip tomorrow by walking 15km in the mountains. What we discover will be displayed later.

After a long waiting, we have at last started the trip for sapphire. Everyone has come back with unexpected reward, especially Lantian Man. He experienced the enthusiasm in Shandong and had to beg for a way out to have a good taste of the courage of Changle Volcano.
