Foreword of 《fossil@NET》
2009-01-01
In my childhood, I always regarded fossil as a mysterious cowry especially the sabre rattling dinosaur and mysterious skull of Beijing ape man. I always pay attention to the surroundings because I feel that I will have an astonished discovery in a certain place someday: either a discovery of a tooth of a dinosaur fossil at roadside or acquisition of the location of Beijing ape man in the crack of books in a certain library. Science is so mysterious and unattainable. I ever had the idea that science was what scientists should do while ordinary people were just audiences; popular science was the work of government while common people were just listeners. However, in Mr. Deng Xiaoping’s view, “Science and technology constitute the primary productive forces”; Mr. Bacon also says that science’s emphasis is on understanding by common people. If science could not come out from palace or ordinary people were not let into the palace of science, who will realize the primary productive forces? Darwin passed away with evolutionism. The sum rises as usual and everything is still full of vitality. What will human beings be like? What will the world be like?
《fossil@NET》emerged along with the flourishing of the country, the improving of human scientific qualities and many people’s expectation to know and acquaint with fossil.
The origination of 《fossil@NET》aims at making more people acquainting with fossil, knowing fossil and understanding the science knowledge and mysterious stories in the fossil.
《fossil@NET》provides the newest discovery and research achievement, and exhibits the exploration, discovery, communication, discussion of fossil fans and their mood in daily life. Different from other professional academic journals, scientific content is the life line of the journal, earthliness is the tone, and commonalty is the direction. Our final purpose is to make efforts in improving public scientific quality.
《fossil@NET》not only spreads relevant science knowledge with fossil, but also scientific spirit of acquainting with nature, understanding nature and exploring nature.
The knowledge and contents in《fossil@NET》mainly originated from the original works of fossil fans on fossil website, and the readers of 《fossil@NET》are mainly the fossil fans on fossil website.
