Shanwang Biota

Shanwang Biota: 20 kilometers away from Lin Chu County Town of Shandong Province in the east, Shanwang Village is surrounded by mountains. There are diatomite shales couch together. These layers are as thin as paper. Being influenced by weathering, these layers will tilt layer upon layer as book pages. People of ancient times compared this to be “books” iconically. Just like characters in books, large amount of paleontology fossils are the best records of the Miocene period ancient living world of China. Over ten categories, altogether over 600 kinds of species of different living creature fossils of the Cenozoic Miocene period over 10 million years before are preserved here. Most of plant fossils are of branches and leaves and majority of them have had original color, flower, fruit and seed preserved perfectly. There are also animal fossils of insect, fish, amphibian, reptile, bird and mammal.
